Rachel Andres is the first woman to win the International Charles Bronfman Prize, of $100,000.
Rachel is the director of the Solar Cooker Project of Jewish World Watch. The ovens have provided safety to women of Darfur who before were forced to search for wood to cook with in dangerous areas. Now they can cook in the safety of their camp without the risk of being attacked.
The stove materials are sent to refugee camps where they are assembled by women and girls, who are paid for their work. The Solar Cooker Project not only provides safety to women, but allows many to earn an income for their families.
